Giveaway Love: Mary Thomas Embroidery books

Hi Guys! Remember I told you February on Feeling Stitchy was going to be all about love? Well, I wasn't kidding, and we've got some giveaway love for you today! By the way, I had every intention to do this post last night, but hail, thunder, and some creepy lightning got in the way, switching off my computer at least once! eep! So, the giveaway's today instead. :)

A couple of weeks ago, I stumbled on 2 books that so many of you love and swear by as embroiderers. So, I decided to do a giveaway of both, for those of you who haven't had a chance to own them!

Mary Thomas's Dictionary of Embroidery Stitches (updated version)

Mary Thomas Cover
Mary Thomas's Embroidery Book (vintage edition)

I'm doing a giveaway today of one updated version of Mary Thomas's Dictionary of Embroidery Stitches and one vintage copy of Mary Thomas's Embroidery book. (2 different books) The vintage copy won't be the one in the picture - but it will be the best quality vintage copy I can track down!

To win, just leave a comment on this post by 9 PM, US central time on Sunday, Feb. 5. Tell me which copy you'd like, and tell me one thing you love about Feeling Stitchy!

Edit: 9 PM, Sunday - comments closed! Two winners will be announced tomorrow! :)

Hi, I'm floresita, editor of Feeling Stitchy. I'm an avid stitcher, knitter, and crafter. You can see more of my stitching on Instagram and my blog. My vintage transfer collection is on Vintage Transfer Finds.

Feel free to email me with any ideas for the blog!

  1. I think I'd love to receive the vintage copy, which is unusual for me, since I am not usually a fan of used books. But, embroidery feels like such a vintage craft to me that I think I should honor it with the vintage version :)

And, I love how Feeling Stitchy has inspired me to learn to embroider (or re-learn, since I haven't done it in a couple of decades).

  3. What DON'T I love about feeling stitch? I myself frequently feel stitchy, and love to know that I'm not alone. Plus, you post some of the most beautiful, creative stitching I've seen. Hope in humanity...restored! (and I like the vintage copy)

  9. I would love the vintage copy, I love feeling stitchy because it feels like home, I love seeing the creativity and talent of everyone that is featured, but it also reminds me of all the time I spent with my grandmother learning to embroider and how she would always point out some new stitch or interesting piece of art. Feeling Stitchy has such a great sense of community.

I love Feeling Stitchy because it's getting me back to my thread embroidery roots. I started embroidering when I was 14, and I find it such a relaxing, calming way to make beautiful things.

I do much more bead embroidery nowadays, but I'd love to make some jewelry that incorporates thread and bead embroidery stitches.

  128. i would like the vintage copy because i like vintage books in general. I love feeling stitchy because it gives my the warm and fuzzies about embroidery and it feels good right from the banner at the top to whatever the story is about!

  129. I would love either book, but the dictionary seems especially helpful. I am a newly wed starting out on my own and trying to learn a lot of needlework and embroidary techniques to save money and add a personal touch to decorating. What I love about Feeling Stitchy is that there is a lot of inspiration behind the work and ideas posted and it gives you a lot of jumping off points for work :)

  135. One thing I feel about stitchy is, I am 72 and just beginning to learn to stitch, having the books would be an enormous reference. Thank You for offering them.

  136. Oh I think I would want the newer version--- just so I could use it. The vintage one I might want to put on a self afraid to touch it.

My favourite thing about feeling stitchy is all the fantastic projects!

  138. Feeling Stitchy is my stitchery eye candy! Would love a vintage edition of Mary Thomas's Embroidery Book (I already have her Dictionary of Embroidery Stitches, which is amazing). Thanks for doing such a nice giveaway!!

  139. I'd like the updated version. I have Mary Thomas's Knitting Book as one on my favorites and am tempted by the vintage copy, but I'm a sucker for color photos. I love the variety of fun of the projects here. I do a lot of more serious long term embroidery pieces so I love the fast and quirky stuff I find here as a change of pace. It's just the thing for days when I want to pitch things into a trash can and swear I'll never embroider again. There's always something inspiring to find here.

Maybe the vintage more as I'm a vintage freak. i love your website because you make it fun and the fun makes it great when teaching newbies an art I love to do. Keep up the good vibes and all the fun!! kimpe@izoom.net
