collection of J. Megan Mays - image via See Saw
Vintage needlebooks always have such fun, colorful images of women gathering to stitch and sew. This one's a bit unusual because it depicts a group of women embroidering. You know I love that. But I especially love this super swank, modern illustration:collection of J. Megan Mays - image via See Saw
There's a whole bunch of these to be seen in this blog post at See Saw.

Oh my gosh, talk about taking me back. Haven't seen these in years and years. Too bad these aren't given out anymore. I remember different businesses would give these to customers. I was in high school, 40+ years ago.
ReplyDeleteI have one of these that is very similar to the one first pictured. The inside is lined with spiderweb printed golden foil. It so delicate and one of my fave vintage finds!
ReplyDeleteOh how I love vintage needle books! I'm so glad you posted about them! The artwork is always so fun!
ReplyDeleteI love collecting these - especially if I can find 'em for less than a dollar or 2!
ReplyDeleteThese illustrations are awesome! Can't wait to see the rest on the link you provided :D Thanks!!! (PS I just got some old crewel embroidery books that have so many fun ideas in em... especially all the stitches I've never tried!!!) Happy Monday :D
ReplyDeleteBack then they were so common. We had no idea how we would miss them.

Hi. Thanks for linking to my blog, Seesaw. I'm crazy about needle packs, I have more than 100 of them at this point. I have to tell you, too, that I have had more visits via you link than from almost any other blog that's linked to me. My stats went through the roof today. So thanks, and i hope your regular readers will keep checking in at my blog, and say "hi."
ReplyDeletecheers, Liza, ephemera collector, from SeeSaw.
I love vintage needlebooks and some of the newer ones out there. I have a tiny collection. :)

Those vintage needlebooks you featured are really fun! I have a few standard ones that I've acquired over the years and always appreciate how they tell us something about those prior times--the clothes, the activities. Mostly, I am struck by how the pace of life feels much slower than today. Thanks for sharing!
