February Vintage Pattern Stitchalong: Week 2
Hey guys! Here we are at week 2 of the vintage pattern stitchalong and I was so excited to see so many of you joining in and adding your pictures to the pool!
Need the pattern? Download here (thanks, Claudia!)
Want to see week one? Here you go!
Last week, I started off doing all the lazy daisy stitches in the large flower design (and whoa, were there a lot!)
Step 5: French knots
Next, I tackled the French knots in the middle of the flower:
Now, I know French knots are kind of the most dreaded embroidery stitch, but once you get the hang of them, they're not bad at all!
Need some step by step instructions on making the perfect French knot?

Step 6: Changing My Mind
Predictably though, after looking at my stitching, I changed my mind about the colors I'd picked:
I was inspired by the blues I used on the French knots (and my bright blue sheets), so I picked out the outermost row of pink lazy daisy stitches and made them a bright turquoise blue instead:
Next week, I'll take you through the rest of my stitching, but before I go I want to show you some of the awesome projects you've been posting to our Flickr pool!
Nicole printed the design on notecard paper and made cards:
Eeva rose modified the pattern into this lovely design that fits perfectly in her hoop:
Lisa transferred her pattern to a dark fabric and started with some vibrant peaches, pinks and reds:
Jen modified her design to include clusters of French knot flowers with stems, and satin stitch details:
Gorgeous stuff, you guys! If you've joined in, why not add a picture to our Flickr pool and show us?
Here's another idea - if you're stitching along on your blog, why not leave a link to it here? Then next week I'll also feature projects from the blogs you link to here! Thanks for joining in, and let's get stitching! :)
Great work! I especially like Jen's french knot flowers... so adorable! :) Oh and I like your color change too... the first was good but the new one pops. :)
ReplyDeleteI like the blue and fuchsia together too; talk about pop! And Lisa's black and peach design makes me want to start a new project on black right now! :)
ReplyDeleteOoh, I think I'll download this and give it a shot! I'm not that great w/embroidery but I'm going to try it again! Thanks! xoxo
ReplyDeletethese are wondermus...thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThey're great!
ReplyDeletethanks for including my project!
ReplyDeleteit's a royal blue flour sack towel. The lighting in the photo doesn't highlight it very well, honestly. It's four different pinks.
I'm onto the reverse pattern so more pics to come!
I love it with the turquois! good call.
ReplyDeleteand maybe I'm strange but I love making french knots, so satisfying.
What I really love about this pattern is that it is really flexible - it extends well, repeats well, and is just lovely. I'm stretching mine out further by using two corner motifs with a round medallion in the center to stretch across a side of a piece I am working on.
ReplyDeleteI love the card, how cute would that be for a birthday pressie?
ReplyDeleteFor some reason, I can't comment on here from my home computer. :(
ReplyDeleteBut! Luckily I can post from work. I'm stitching right along with you guys and loving every moment of it. It's so fun to see all of the different ways people are working the same pattern. I love the note card! I posted some updated pictures of the little pillow I'm working on last night.
Thank you again for inspiring us all to be creative. :)

What an inspiring bunch you all are!
ReplyDeleteOh goodness, these are amazing! Such inspiration!
ReplyDeleteI'm entirely new to embroidery, but I've been having a go at joining in... I don't have a Flickr account, but you can see some pictures on my blog here: http://eggbirddesigns.blogspot.com/2011/02/wonky-stitchalong.html
Much love,
Kim
Please help.
ReplyDeleteI would like to transfer this to wool felt. Do you use iron-on pens for this? Or what? Normally, I use a sunny window to transfer patterns.
Thanks for any help.
Jody
I took the pattern on a more Valentine-y path: http://relaxolotl.blogspot.com/2011/02/feeling-stitchy.html
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see what everyone else has been up to!
For wool felt, I'd probably try transfer paper and a pen/stylus.
ReplyDeleteThis is my first stitch along - it is so fun - Thank you for putting this out there. I am very new to embroidery - and I think you can see that in my work :) How do you get the 'petal stitches' to look so neat?? It is so interesting to see all the different interpretations of the one pattern - v beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI love this pattern and love that you showcased people's beautiful work! Thinking of trying it out myself and have got the inspiration for it. Thanks for sharing, have a lovely day :)
ReplyDeleteI'm only just up to this post in my reader. So uncanny- the timing, because I just posted on my blog on Tuesday asking for some new stitches- french knots in particular!! Crazy!
ReplyDeleteAnyway, this looking lovely!
this is so cool. i am currently addicted to embroidering, but ive never really learn a thing just giving it a go. thanks for the inspiration.
