Feeling Stitchy Poll

Seussical (14)

The wonderful work that you all upload to the Flickr Embroidery group continues to amaze me! Every time I take a peek in the pool there is something that catches my eye. Take this excellent Dr. Seuss piece stitched by June at Noon. These are actually 2 complete embroidered pages, including the words. Do take a look at the other photos here.

O.k. so we already know how awesome you all are but we also want to hear what you think of us. Let us know what you would like to see more (or less) of on the Feeling Stitchy blog. Do you have an amazing idea for this blog? You can share that with us too! Just be honest and be nice. :)  The Poll ends Tuesday the 25th of January, one comment per person please.

Because we appreciate your cooperation a lot, there are some prizes for (randomly chosen) winners!  There is one Royal Castle Peep Embroidery Sampler designed by me, Nicole for Lizzy House.

And Carina offers her adorable new PDF pattern Sweet Posy

Sweet Posy - embroidery pattern
So what are you waiting for, share your Feeling Stitchy Feelings with us now!

  1. hmmm...maybe a tutorial on all the basic stitches for those of us who are fairly new to embroidery. Other than that, I love, love this blog. So much inspiration! And wow, that cat in the hat is awesome!

  2. I love this blog so much. I get so many ideas for things I would never have thought to try. I would love to see a tutorial on mini quilts using embroidered sqaures. I have a ton of embroidery I want to do something with.

  3. I love this blog. I am delighted to have a focal point for my newly re-kindled obsession with all things embroidery. I am so excited about adding it to my facebook feed because I am reminded to come here regularly and check it out. I have bought several books recently inspired by this site. I spent a good portion of time checking out every tutorial link, and discovered many delightful blogs along the way. Thank you so much.

  4. Tutorials for some of the basics would be great, but honestly this blog is fantastic just the way it is! The awesome work you post is such an inspiration!

  5. Awesome pics! Love the blog and I don't know what I would add. Maybe more artist interviews? Thanks for the great read!

  6. I would love to see ideas on how to use embroidery for things. I have a sheet of stitching and would appreciate tips on cutting them out and applying them to things! The blog is great and I anticipate every post.

  7. i would totally love it if there was a way to subscribe via e-mail...

i love you just the way you are, but i wish i didn't keep missing things!

i don't use outlook, so i can't get RSS feeds in my e-mail, and i can never keep up with checking blogs or facebook daily, or even keeping up with my google reader, for that matter! i've noticed more and more blogs using feedburner, etc, and they're the only ones i read regularly, honestly. for some reason e-mail is more manageable for me.

  8. Can't think of anything I'd add, I love seeing all of the different creations on the blog.

  9. I would love to learn more about the folks whose embroidery is featured; what inspires them, how they choose colors, how they create patterns, what they do while embroidering... listen to music or books on tape, watch tv, stitch in silence?

  10. I'm fairly new to this sight and to embroidery but I would love a post or link or something like that about different books about embroidery. Old books, new books, up and coming books. Thanks!

  11. I love seeing new posts Feeling Stitching in my reader, this blog keeps me interested in embroidery!! I think tutorials for different stitches would be fun, or maybe some kind of sampler stitch along

    ReplyDelete
  12. Would love a series of sorts...learning something, tutorial or patterns to follow along like a project! Thanks!

  13. I am new to this blog and stitching, and I love it and can't get enough. I would love more patterns, and also more different project ideas. Maybe tips about stitching on different types of fabric.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I'll echo the call for more tutorials, but not just on basic stitches -- how about more exotic stitches, patterns, and styles of needlework from around the world? I love seeing different ways of decorating with thread.

    ReplyDelete
  15. How about focusing on a stitch/technique and pulling several examples from the photo pool. I'm sure you've done it before! In particular, I'm always curious to see the different methods people use to fill large areas.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Thanks so much for the feature!

I think it would be cool to have some occasional simple stitchalongs or tutorials for a specific technique, whether that be stitches or basic projects, finishing methods, etc. Maybe have different admired stitch artists share a project with their method of doing certain techniques....

  17. I love this blog and would love to have it sent via email. I don't always have time to check out websites. I like the idea of patterns from around the world. I have a vintage mini quilt embroidery pattern that I would love to share with Catherine if she will give me her email. Mine is jeninemd@roadrunner.com

  18. I love your blog and get so much ideas and inspiration from it! Although I think we should have another swap like the one I participated in last winter (embroidered button swap), very fun and loved seeing everyone's take on embroidered buttons! Happy Tuesday friend!

  19. This blog is already so great it's hard to think of how to improve it. Maybe some ideas on what to do with embroideries. For example, I have a whole bunch of stitched things laying around. I can't frame them all, so how else can I make best use of them?!

    ReplyDelete
  20. This blog is great! I second (or third?) the idea for interviews or more in-depth information about some of the works you've featured or different artists. IMO, stitch guides or tutorials can be fun, but please make sure they don't overwhelm the content of what we are already coming here for (inspiration!), they can get boring for those of us who already know the stitches.

    Keep up the great work!

  21. I agree that the blog is great as it is. It's always a good read and I like the fact that you are a team, contributing different posts. I would love to see some interviews with inspirational stitchers, perhaps even 'unknowns' whose work you spotted on Flickr, or embroidery bloggers. I love vintage embroidery too so maybe a spot on some history of embroidery/embroiderers, patterns and transfers. Maybe the occasional 'Feeling Stitchy Stitch-Along' too. And perhaps a page of mini-biogs on the contributers on FS.

  22. Blog is fabo! I would love to see needlework from everyone's mother, grandmother or great grandmother! In my case, my YiaYia, Greek for Grandmother, did a cross stitch when she was 14 years old in Akrata, Greece. She did two, I have one and my cousin has the other! Our fathers are twins! I treasure it like no other! Imagine, having something like that from 1909!

  23. LOVE Feeling Stitchy! I agree with Catherine and Madeleine, I would love to see more ideas on using embroidery in a variety of ways such as quilts and I also vote for more patterns or links to patterns of a wide variety. Thanks so much!

  24. I love this site. It is so inspiring. Maybe some more ideas of how to use embroidered pieces. Thanks for such a great website.

  25. Would it be possible to increase the frequency of updates? Or you could showcase a different culture each week. That could be quite fun...

    ReplyDelete
  26. I've done embroidery before but after a long (many years!) hiatus, I'm getting back into the stitch of things. Just found your site, so can't offer much in the way of recommendations as I still have so much info to get through. I'm a big fan of tutorials, though, and love to see different ideas of what to do with the embroidery once it's completed.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I agree, tutorials are always nice. But I really just love popping in and seeing such wonderful and creative projects.
    Keep up the great work.

  28. i would love to see profiles of brick and mortar shops that sell embroidery and cross-stitch supplies. when i travel, i always try and check out the shops in the area--though they're not always easy to track down. maybe have contributors do profiles on the shops in their area?

keep up the amazing work! this is such a fun and inspiring blog to follow!

p.s. i'm totally obsessed with lizzy house's designs, and i love her foray into embroidery!

  29. I'd love know more about the artists whose work is featured. What attracted them to embroidery, how they learned to embroider, what images or designs inspire them to create. Where they go for inspiration. In particular, I'd love to read about people who aren't professional artists or designers and who (perhaps) do less-than-creative work for a living; how do they bridge their "day job" work to their needlework? Also, I like stitch alongs and swaps because I love to see different approaches to the same topic. This blog is wonderful!

    ReplyDelete
  30. I love how you cover all sorts of people (and what they're doing) in the embroidery field! Tutorials seem to be a popular response so far, so I'll put my questions out there: I cannot for the life of me figure how to embroider on knits, particularly stretchy knits, even with stabilizer. Also, I would love to know how iron on transfers are printed, or at least where I can go to print off some of my designs.

I also would love ideas of different things to embroidery- maybe a series on different materials, maybe ways to integrate embroidery into other crafts and everyday objects.

I also notice a few requests for patterns. I regularly draw and post lineart for patterns (you've featured my From the Depths before, as embroidered by giddy99), and would be happy to draw something exclusive for you guys, if you'd like.

  31. Your blog is new to me, so I'm lost as to the "procedures". Like the first comment from Elaine, embroidery stitches basics and using them in quilts would be helpful. How do you hide the knotty part and "getting to the next stitch" shadowing on embroidery? Do you have to use a backing? It would be helpful to know up-to-date tips. I tried one of your links and it led to a blog that had relocated. Perhaps you can check the links. Thanks for listening.

  32. LOVE THIS BLOG! i would love to see more patterns and maybe links or spotlights on embroidery blogs or embroidery books.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I'll also echo some of the previous comments, I love FS 'as-is' but I also think it would be fun to have some stitch alongs and some tutorials of some of the lesser known stitches. I love what Becky said too about small bio's of the contributors, it would be great to know the gals behind the blog a little better.
    Thanks!

  34. I like the stitch along idea. Can it be something sampler-ish (but not XS-ish if that makes sense)

  36. I just love the blog. It's all about embroidery. What's not to love? :)

    ReplyDelete
  37. I love seeing all the projects on this blog. Tutorials on any stitches would be great.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I already love the blog for all the inspiration and all the pretty pictures. Maybe some ideas on what to do with all our embroidery once done :)

    ReplyDelete
  39. I love the blog just as it is! It is - hands down - my favorite embroidery blog and I always find inspiring things here. A couple of people mentioned artist interviews - and I would love to see that. I always like hearing the stories behind what people create.

  40. I think it would be fun to have themed weeks of embroidery. We could have a stitch along of sorts and share our work. I love having a theme to get me going, escpecially in the winter months.
Or sharing whats the newest patterns or trends with embroidery.
I'm glad we have this blog though to see the embroidery others work on!

  41. I really love your blog. I've been a follower since before I started to embroider. I still only find time to stitch every once in a while but I make sure to check your blog daily. It always makes me want to pick up my needle and hoop! I would love to see more links to patterns that people have used but other than that I think you are doing great :).

    ReplyDelete
  42. I love the blog as it is, but as someone very new to embroidery, I wouldn't mind some tutorials and maybe some talk about needle and thread choices.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I really like this blog a lot as it is, but I would like to see more tutorials and how-to's in addition to all the inspirational posts. I would also love to see reviews of books, websites etc.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I love the links to all the various work and patterns. Great ideas and amazing artistry.

Maybe a weekly stitch project. A free pattern we can down load and each week you teach a new stitch. When we are done. we have a sample stitch guide. :) Just an idea.

  45. I absolutely love this blog! It is a needleworker's dream for inspiration - I check it everyday. I also love the feeling of community it provides for us textile artists. How about a feature on antique needlearts? But really, this site is wonderful as it is! Seventies Girl

  46. I absolutely adore this blog! My favorite aspect is the diversity of projects. In any given week, I'm inspired, awed, and humbled. Thanks so much for all you do!

  47. I can't think of anything off the top of my head that you guys could add. I just really really love this blog! It's so inspiring and constantly supplies me with new ideas!

  48. There are two things. One is where people get their inspiration. That is always interesting. And two is something I have had in the back of my mind, but haven't been sure how to put together, but I have a good ideas now. It's an impromptu online exhibition. I don't mind doing the work of putting the site together, but it would be great to have it a "feeling stitchy" embroidery exhibition. Contact me (theflossbox) if this sounds like something you might like to do.

  50. Hii!! I started stalking your blog a week or so ago and love it. However, I know VERY little about embroidery and crewel and I think that if you spent one entire month discussing the follow, it would be helpful and maybe get me started:

    1) choosing fabrics to work on
    2) buy threads and different threads
    3) different stitches (and how to make each of the main ones)
    4) great beginner projects
    5) NEEDLES! I know nothing about other needles than knitting

Just suggestions. I will keep checking to see what you come up with!!

    Love the blog, thank you!

  51. This blog is really awesome the way it is..
The only thing I seem to keep wondering about is how do people use all these embroidered fabric.. just framed or in quilts, pillowcases???
i just want to see how its used..

  52. Nandini, you read my mind.
I would also like to see how others display their work.

  53. I've been reading The Cat in The Hat to my granddaughter! Great embroidery there.

I really liked it when you featured embroidery on quilts. I'm about to make two baby quilts (for new grands) and really want to add some fun embroidery to them.

I am always inspired here. Thank you for what you do.

  54. I would love to see more tutorials or tips on how to display the finished projects. I see lots of lovely embroideries on Etsy or other blogs being displayed/hung up in their original hoops, but I'm nervous about cutting/gluing/framing my own and would love some advice as to how to do it properly. (I'm a beginner and very worried about ruining the finished project with a glue mishap etc..)

  56. A stitch a long sampler of stitches for newbies like me!! It's got to be cute and modern though ;)

  57. I am very new to your blog -- In fact, I think that Stitch magazine is how I found you! I've rediscovered my love of embroidery, and find your site fresh and fun. Something that interests me (and may or may not already be here) is how to beautify stuff we use, not just decorative items. I believe in using these things--tea towels or hand towels for example--but I'm a little leery because I don't want that use to ruin the stitchery. Maybe certain stitches work better than others? Anyway, glad I found you, looking forward to whatever comes next!

    ReplyDelete
  58. I think Feeling Stitchy is a wonderful blog and I'd love it to go a bit deeper into the subject. I would like to see a greater range of styles of embroidery and maybe articles on embroiderers who have got their work into galleries, or embroiderers who are perhaps considered expert at what they do, or take the craft of embroidery to a new level. Also interviews with embroiderers who have written books. It would be great as well to have really in-depth reviews of embroidery books.
I'd also like to see the option of having a weekly e-mail digest of articles, then I could be sure that I hadn't missed anything.
    Best wishes

  59. This is for Melissa, the lady who commented above who wanted to know how to mount her embroidery: I've just come across June At Noon's brilliant tutorial on her blog: http://www.juneatnoon.com/2009/10/lacing-an-embroidery/ I use this method, and it means that if you want to re-mount or use the embroidery in another way at a later date, you just cut the threads. BTW, June At Noon's blog is really good, and worth a long browse!

  60. love the blog. what i would like to see more of is ideas for other things to embroider. i feel like all i work on are pillowcases, towels and baby bibs. what else can i embroider?

    ReplyDelete
  61. Love the fabulous designs with short explanations so the pics speak for themselves. I would love to make so many things, your blog's really refreshing and inspiring - my problem is time! If you could share a way to squeeze a few stitching hours into each day I would be well happy!

    ReplyDelete
  62. More "alternative" embroidery: cross stitch, crewel, blackwork, stumpwork. This is my year to branch out from "regular" embroidery and learn the other stuff, plus cross stitch is my first and enduring love, and people are doing more with it than just being snarky. It's a stitchy artform too!

I LOVE the embroidery, knitting, and quilting stuff you share... I'm constantly inspired and I visit almost everyday!

    ReplyDelete
  63. I'm a new stitcher and I love all the kitschy designs. I'd like to see more "how-to's" and all the different types of stitches, like split stitch...so fun!!

    ReplyDelete
  64. I love this blog, but as a beginner embroiderer, I'd love to have more'close ups' of finished embroidered work; I'd love to be able to really see great examples (or at least, better than mine examples!) of different stitches.
