I must admit that I seldom use the Split Stitch as a filling stitch but this wonderful example embroidered by Refabulous. shows it can do the job perfectly!
The filling stitches I most often choose, not taking into account 'semi filling stitches' like the Seed Stitch, are probably the Satin Stitch , the Long and Short Stitch and the Brick Stitch. What's your favourite filling stitch?
I love using split stitch to fill! But I kind of do a combination of long-short stitch and split stitch. It is awesome for filling in areas that are supposed to look like animal fur!
ReplyDeleteYour butterfly is beautiful. Wish I could do this stitch as well.
ReplyDeletebeautiful work, i especially like the placement of the monarch on the hoop, and the subtle branch on the linen.
ReplyDeletei don't think i've ever used a stitch besides split stitch. it feels like most like painting (like a really slow painting). i've been obsessing over trying to master utilizing the direction of stitches to make a dynamic sculptural effect.
This is beautiful!!!
ReplyDeleteJust awesome!
ReplyDeleteWow, that looks fabulous. I'm still trying to perfect long and short stitch, but I do like chain stitch as a filler.
ReplyDeleteI tend to use brick stitch but that butterfly is so beautiful. It looks as though it's on fire
ReplyDeleteThis is gorgeous! I love the orange :)
